How to prep for a flight

March 21, 2016

Flights can be stressful to prepare for as you have so many things to think about when planning for them (the suitcase and what you can take with you, as well as all the documents and information you'll need upon arrival, etc.).

And then, during the actual flight, it can be really boring, especially if they're very long, so you'll want to take some entertainment with you.

Here's a list of all the things you need to think about and cross out on your list when preparing for a flight:

1. Check that you have all your documents with you.

This is the most important thing you need to remember and to check off on your packing list, for obvious reasons.

2. Make sure that you don't take any of the forbidden objects in your carry-on luggage and that it conforms to the sizes allowed in the plane.

If you want everything to go smoothly when you're passing through security, this is very important.

Don't forget to check online what objects you can or can't take with you or the limits in sizes/quantities - this will prevent any annoyance from the security people at the airport and from yourself, if you have to chuck anything out pre-flight.

3. Check if they're serving food on your flight

If you're able to get this information, you can plan to eat before going onto the plane if there is no meal on-board.

4. Wear comfortable clothes

Comfortable clothes and that are easy to remove are a must when flying because you might have to remove certain items when passing through security.

Also, avoid wearing too much jewellery or various accessories - you'll usually have to take them all out while going through security and, honestly, you want to be comfortable when you're at the airport to catch a flight.

Wearing super high heels, uncomfortable clothes and lots of accessories will get in the way when you're carrying bags or passing through security or even while sitting on the plane, so do consider that.

5. Prepare your entertainment for the flight

Before a flight, get the episodes or movies you want to watch on the plane on your computer or tablet or select some books to take with you to read.

Remember to take portable chargers or fully-charged electronics (nothing's more annoying than being prepared to watch a bunch of episodes to pass the time and not have any battery). If you like listening to music during flights, you can consider making playlists, as well.

Also, don't forget headphones!! You don't want to annoy the person next to you by forcing them to listen to your music or whatever you're watching.

These are a just a few tips for pre-flight planning for a smooth and comfortable flight. Do you have any other tips we didn't cover?
